Image 29-06-2016 at 09.23.jpg Years ago I bought this Beadwork Prie-Dieu (Prayer Chair) It was in a terrible state but I loved it, I spent six weeks solid working on it.

The legs were badly splayed so needed bringing back in.
Lots of beads were missing, I had to replace them in situ (back breaking)
The gesso was in a bad state, needed filling in and re-gilding.
The original velvet and braid was missing.
    Needed a general clean.

Hope you enjoy seeing the before and after pics. 149881_1716116429280_1429311203_1818602_660586_n.jpg IMG_0087.jpg IMG_0088.JPG

Thank you, It was well worth all the effort to restore this beautiful chair.

One of the best things is that underneath on the frame it has the remains of a National Trust sticker which means it was once in a stately home.

Do you do restorations professionally or strictly as a hobby/obsession?:joyful:

Its the latter :) I just love bringing antiques back to their former glory, I get a real kick from seeing things look wonderful again, I just taught my self over the years, trial and error.
I've always had a love of sewing and history so it started there.

Thank you, Yes that makes it a lot more interesting, There seems to be no way of finding out which stately home it was in though.

Just thinking about the work involved to replace the beads makes my back ache. You should be very proud, it is once again a beautiful chair:)
