Eagle head badge

The estate where it was found had no idea and i am at a loss. It measures approximately 4.5"x3.5". Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    Figured it out King! With the help of a friend i found out its the badge off of a M1881 Indian Wars helmet. Interestingly enough, he told me that the two small holes in the center of the shield (which I was concerned about) are there to attach the specific infantry number. Thanks for the help. Very much appreciate the input!

    Ah good!
    Wrong guess but sent you looking. I should've said those holes were for a number or some symbol.
