Idetification Please

    Hello

    Can anyone please tell me what i have here?
    As far as I know they came over to Australia by boat from Northern Italy in 1952

    Believe it is called Trench Art
    WWI era shell casings that were "embossed"

    Wait for confirmation or other opinions.

    If you give the diameter of the base, someone might be able to suggest what type of shell casing was used.

    They could have been made by soldiers from any of the armies involved; I don't think the Germans made them, but ... who knows. The French, British and Americans all did. War is sometimes defined as days of boredom interspersed with hours of sheer terror. The doughboys would be sitting around sometimes for weeks, and worked with what was handy. I.e. spent shell casings, sometimes wood, coins, etc. My favorite piece of trench art is a WWII Mother pendant made from an Aussie silver dime and a piece of perspex most likely from a downed plane.

    Mine is German and made in a camp here in the states.
