Old metal chess set

    Found these cleaning out my grandmothers house. Wondering if anyone has any information don't know much. Very heavy metal pieceses. Sorry haven't finished cleaning them [​IMG]

    Cast lead. Most likely 1970s or newer.

    Do you have a full set?

    Yes I have the full set. So then nothing special? Was mainly wondering if it's worth getting them appraised

    There is a set on feebay asking $350. I doubt they will get close to that price.

    If they're 1970s, I doubt they're lead, unless you guys were still allowing manufacture then.

    They may have called them pewter or something, but look at the sultan's nose. That's clearly more lead than tin.

    Even at this date, the only restriction on lead in consumer goods here is for food contact items and toys designed for children under 14. And neither of those is checked on Chinese imports.

    My husband purchased this same set (or one very much like it) while in Spain in the sixties. It's started to oxidize and I'm trying to figure out how to clean it and came across this thread.
