Are these busts the same?

It's good to have Joy keep dissenting, because it forces me to really go over them, comparing multiple points, not just settling for a first impression. Yes, I think yours, the R&L in the book JB was so fortuitously able to supply, & the Seidenberg are same maker/mold. I look carefully at folds of clothing & curls of hair, places it would be difficult for 2 different modelers to get exactly the same.

The lighting in the Seidenberg photo makes the set of the mouth look sterner than on the others.

@Christmasjoy Do Gato's bust & the one from the book look like the same model to you, even if the Seidenberg one does not?

I wondered if there was some image distortion on the Seidenberg bust so I fiddled with the image to make it a little narrower and fiddled with the color and light. I think they look closer with the change. Doesn't mean that the actual bust is narrower though.

I'm tired of this .. I've stated several times what I think, and that's final. He needs to get a hands-on expert to examine it. With respect, I don't wish to repeat myself over and over again. Just want to say "Good Luck" Gatoblanconz .. I sincerely hope that it is what you think it is ... I wish for everyone here to find fine items and be happy. Love Joy. :):):)

    I'm quite convinced it's the same one but I don't think it's worth 7 1/2 thousand I think it's worth about 400 Australian dollars.
I just spoke to an antique dealer here he had some Parry and bus for sale and he was selling small ones for a couple of hundred each he said mine was a good price at 380.

Gosh Joy I hope I didn't offend you:(, I sure didn't mean to.

I have been trying to satisfy my own curiosity about the size and if there is a simple explanation to the more narrow appearance and depth of details I see.

I don't know squat about this subject matter, but I have to ask. In the factory where these were made, what would be happening there? Is there just one Tom Moore mould or would there be several to increase the production numbers? Would the mould be thoroughly cleaned after each use? After the bust is taken out of the mould, what does the worker do to "finish" it? Is it like glass where the repeated use of the mould results in a reduction in the crispness of the end product? Is it like glass in that someone "finishes" it to improve the overall appearance after it comes out of the mould?

Because I agree with joy, the busts look a little different. My observation comes from the eyes mostly and some other facial features. But not enough differences to suggest a knock off by another company. The OP's bust looks as if someone went over the bust with a damp sponge after it came out of the mould and thus smoothed over some of the facial features. I know it could be the photo, but if you look at the eyes, it looks really different. Other slight differences are apparent to me as well. But it seems as if the OP has his asking price and it also seems reasonable. So maybe just moving along is best. BWDIK?

Mine is 16 inches tall. That makes it the same as the Seidenberg one 'if' the height given by Seidenberg includes the socle. Mine is also the same width (shoulder to shoulder) as the Seidenberg but the depth (front to back) of mine differs from their measurement. They say 6 inches but I measure 7.64. However the one just above from the catalogue (with a different, longer socle to the Seidenberg) has a figure of 20 written on the photograph for the height excluding the socle. So I am a bit confused. 16 inches seems about the right size for the large parian busts

Does it say somewhere exactly where the measurements begin and end? It looks to me that the base (10") is 1/2 the size of the bust with socle (20"). So without the socle 16" looks close to me.

Oh yes I see now. The red marks are helpful. The seidenberg has that socle but not the base and is 20.

Dare say it but I think saidenberg are not measuring the full thickness. Mine has the same height and shoulder width as there's but I cannot get the same thickness front to back.

You would need a very large pair of outside calipers to measure the depth at all accurately, & then your results would depend on which 2 points you used. The Seidenberg number may be very much an estimate.
