What is this copper item used for

    IMG_4056.JPG IMG_4057.JPG It's 54 cm long and has cast claw brass feet. It's about 5 cm deep in the pan.

    I'd guess it's missing a glass or ceramic insert and also missing a lid. I'd also guess it's some kind of a chafing dish or part of a buffet service.

    Looks like brass, not copper.

    Inside has what looks like lime deposits, so it either had dirt or water in it at some point.

    I have one just like this but round. It had a glass insert at one point and I believe it is a chafing dish.
