Featured High setting ring

hi! Looking for some advice on a ring that's been stored in my mothers jewellery box for as long as I can remember. Its got a crazy high setting holding a 7mm stone. The stamp is on the outside of the ring. Ive never seen a setting so high up. Can anyone give me some info on it . All info and advice is greatly appreciated!

 

Looks like the French eagle head gold mark as shown here.
Wait for others more knowledgeable though.
Lovely ring, you need to get the stone tested by a jeweller or buy a diamond tester yourself, they aren’t very expensive.

 

I tried it with my diamond tester and it came back as diamond. Its just an unusual ring setting.

It is a stunner, Vonniex. Not something for daily wear, with that setting, but beautifully made.

You're right, it is French. As far as I know this is the mark for 18k gold, but I would like @kyratango to confirm that, just to be sure.

 

Had a closer look with my loup, im no expert by the way hahaha....but the girdle looks white and uneven? Is that supposed to be like that? Ill try and add a picture....

Oh yes, dont think I could wear that with the setting, was maybe thinking of lowering the setting for myself but then I dont want to mess with it until I try and find more about its history and age etc.

 

A wee video of her....I took it outside a walk with me & the dog to see what the stone was like, she seems firey!

 

I like it a lot. I don't think it would be a good idea to resize it or alter it in any way. I didn't think it was a diamond, until you said you tested it!

 

What gave you doughts on the diamond?

Nice! Almost as if it is by the same maker, except a flower shape instead of a star. At the moment people seem to prefer yellow and rose gold to white.
Of course the diamond is the most important factor when it comes to value.

 

Oh my goodness, where did you find that?? Very simular!!! But my stamps are on the outer ring band, will have to enquire about it !

 

Not unusual for French and some other Continental marks.

 

Absolutely French, eagle’s head for 12 carats gold, lozenge shaped maker’s mark are typical.

12 carats, so its not 18k gold? sorry I can be ditsy at times lol. The diamond measures 7mm height and 7mm width and 4mm depth what carat size do you think it may be? Thankyou for the warm welcome x

it's hard to tell from photo's....
but I'd venture 3 carats or more..
it may have a large crown with a higher table.....which makes it look bigger than it is....

 

of course 18, not 12 carats!!! I didn't check before hitting post reply
