Beginner question re: apocryphal marks on Chinese porcelain

    One of the first things I learned was that the 6th character in the "scroll" type marks (Zhuanshu) tells you if the mark is apocryphal. THe zhi character has three prongs not 5.

    But is there something similar with the Kaishu type writing? Im guessing there is but havent seen anyone explain this. A quick google produced nothing I could figure.

    Or maybe they dont use Kaishu on apocryphal marks? Anyhow Im sure this is easy to answer but its driving me crazy.

    I dont think there are any hard and fast rules....some apocraphyl marks are indistinguishable from authentic ones.

    Not sure what you mean by the character zhi having three prongs not 5. What is it exactly that you are calling a "prong"?
