I had the same thought about replating, Some people don't mind the rubbing though.

    I wouldn't re-plate, but I would give it a gentle clean.

Well, I looked at both E G and B G and did not see a maker's mark to match.

What about DG, or did I read that wrong?

I respectfully disagree on the first letter being a D. Compare it to the way in which the E in EPNS is made. A D would not have the indent and small opening in it's lower half that this letter has. (And which are identical to the E above it.)

I don't think the maker will matter.

Buy a Sunshine cloth and clean it gently. No replating please!

I really appreciate all the messages I've had since posting this today.

The question I have now then is what's it worth?

I know this is never a easy question but I'm planning on using eBay to sell it and would like some idea since I would rather not set a reserve and just starting the bidding at a reasonable price.

Even with the better pic of the maker's mark, I still not sure what it is. Like Bake I think B or E with a slim posibility of being an R. Nowww I wonder if there is another letter before the B, E or what. Looks like the cartouch extends beyond the B, E, ... leaving enough room for another letter?

What do you think its worth without knowing the maker?
Have you seen similar pieces sell in the past?

Kirk - I don't sell, so all I can suggest is searching ebay.uk for similar items that have been listed and actually sold. Being in the US I don't know what other sites exist over there, but perhaps other members can make additional suggestions.

I believe this is one - There will be little sewing items inside.

When you list it, tell its history. I'd start it at £19.99. You may hit the fifty quid mark, if you get lucky. Silver would be well in the hundreds.
