Help Identify the Sink from The Tingler(1959)?

Hey guys, I'm doing an analysis of the film William Castle's film The Tingler, and I need help identifying either the sink or the tub. It's relevant for me to know the models, or at least the year they were made. I'm guessing sometime in the 20s.

I've found that the company Crane makes an extremely similar sink, but, with a different edge on the bowl and with the plug holder on the horizontal surface, not the verticle.

Well, that's a fun project! You know it's a roll top clawfoot tub, right? And it appears to have a paw foot.

OMG. I'm mostly not bothered by horror films, but after seeing that one late at night on the television when I was a kid, had a hard time feeling safe enough to fall asleep. Think it got to me for several days. Don't know what about it freaked me out so much. Maybe because we all have a spinal cord.

What are you trying to establish by dating the bathroom fixtures? Tub tap appears to have a mixer when the sink taps do not. That might be another feature that gives a clue to time period.

 

lol, this reminds me of sitting in the movie theatres with my mother watching the show, and at a particular tense point in the movie, my mother leaned over to me and whispered.... "See those curtains in the background, I think they would go lovely in Lounge Room."

Well, I think because of how striking this moment is, everything should be pretty well analyzed. For instance, knowing the model could help figure out how difficult it would be to make the sink run blood for an extended period of time so we could figure out whether or not this was an LSD trip, how old the house is (the wife is a symbol for the silent age of film), clues about their wealth, etc.

I suppose practically it doesn't matter the exact make and model, but I enjoy being thorough.

 

Sure, why not. The challenge, of course, is you're researching a movie set so the decor wasn't organic. And important to remember it was a low budget film. FI suspect the bathroom used old fixtures for budget reasons. The typical 1950s bathroom featured sinks incorporated into counters, built-in tubs and lots of tile all of which would have made a period bathroom expensive to create for a B movie. Those bathroom fixtures would have come out of a prop warehouse. And they were probably used in a lot of the studio films. If you have a good eye, bet you can find them elsewhere.

OMG, I DO remember that HORRIBLE HORROR movie.....was MUCH too young to be watching it alone......HAD NIGHTMARES for WEEKS!!!! (guess I was very impressionable!!!!) It's hard to say if there's a ball on that foot!!!!

 

how bout this safe? almost looks wooden, doesn't it? Anyone recognize?

 

I have refinished 5 clawfoot bathtubs, the year date was on the bottom of every one of them.
