I love this style, this pendant is like Matilde Poulat's Matl jewellery, but it is not by her. She was inspired by ethnic jewellery, especially North African, and this silver, turquoise and amethyst pendant is in the same style.

It is marked on the back: "JGD" in a circle which reads "hecho en Mexico DF, 925". That is the only mark, no eagle.
The mark looks like one of the marks for Eddie's, a shop in Mexico DF, except that is JGE with an eagle 1 mark.

    Does anyone recognize this mark?
    Thank you for looking.:)

Pretty piece. There is no JGD in Hougart’s so I doubt that it can be identified since everyone did Matl variations.

Thanks reader, I also checked Hougart's. I should have mentioned that, but on the other hand, I could have missed it.;)

That one is gorgeous too. I really love that style.
Interesting that the seller says 'a recognized Taxco artist', when the mark says Mexico DF, the district of Mexico City.
I saw a couple of other gorgeous JDG items, all in the Matl North African style, but no information on the maker. The general consensus seems to be that it is pre-1948.

Absolutely agree with the dating and fascinated that there is attribution that’s not in the guide. I checked the 3 initial page but didn’t look elsewhere and that Taxco attribution shows what a pile of nonsense is out there.

And, IMO “Matl Dominguez” is total Keyword spam.

Some lovely pieces made by whoever made it!

Matl is the only one of the Mexican “greats” that I’m sorry I don’t own. The only piece I could have had was an outstanding rosary sold for nothing by someone who had no clue what it was but I don’t resell and I can’t wear a rosary. I keep hoping to fall upon a snake piece at an affordable price someday but I only want one if it’s Matl so I won’t hold my breath.

It is amazing how sometimes people and ideas come together to create something that goes way beyond anyone's hopes and expectations. Mexico in the 1930s-40s is a perfect example, Taxco especially. The 'greats' were truly great! And so many women among them, at a time when women were often still expected to be the good little wife.
    Never say never.;)

Thank you for posting this! I have earrings that are in the same style as your pendant by the same maker. Mine were purchased in Northern California in the 1980’s
