Featured Not saphiret, but ...? Help with glass cabs please.

Does anyone know which type the glass cabochons mounted on this silver-plated brooch are?
At first I thought they were creamy yellow satin glass. But then I saw a blue flash, a bit like saphiret, but the base colour isn't brick red like saphiret.
The flash comes and goes and shifts from one place to another as you turn the brooch.
The small cab has the flash too, it's base colour is more reddish.
The flashes are more blue in real life than on the photos, but I can't capture that.

To help with the approx date, the seller thought it was Amsterdam School Arts & Crafts, so 1920s-30s. I don't think it is, it could be a related style and possibly a bit later.

Thanks sabre. She is a young lady of the Balinese aristocracy, called Ni Gusti Nyoman Kelepon. The painting is by Willem Gerard Hofker, one of my favourite painters of Indonesian scenes.

 

Dragon's breath? Or not enough red? Could be studio glass with no name.

 

It does look a bit like dragon's breath, but no red flashes, and it isn't as dark as the dragon's breath I usually see.
These are matte, btw. Not really frosted, but not shiny either.

That would be my luck.

 

Looks more like saphiret than old dragon's breath (orangy when newer ones are more red).
Perhaps the satin finish and a foil underneath change the usual color?

She is a beauty, isn't she? I think this is my favourite of the Hofker paintings.

 

I think saphiret. The side view of that small cabouchon looks right to me.

 

To show you how much I know (zip) about jewels I would have guessed it to be moonstone. Ha ha. It is beautiful whatever it is.

 

I have pieces with these kinds of stone, pale bluish pink/lavendar. I have always thought they were a less common type of Dragons' Breath. I don't think they are saphiret, but I hope they are!!!! I think the defining characteristic would be was gold used in the stone's creation? We won't know.

 

First off, great brooch!

From the photo, I think the larger one is a saphiret and the smaller one not. Plenty of examples of brooches where they used just one saphiret, so not impossible two different stones here. That would be my thought on this.

Saphiret cabochons have a bit of a different reaction to light than the faceted saphirets which really switch from the blue to brown color strongly. With a faceted one you could get a photo of it being completely brown, and a photo of it being completely blue in different angle. The saphiret cabochons sort of hold a brown look with a blue essence and don't totally switch back and forth strongly in color. But that large one looks right to me.

The smaller one seems to have more of a pink/purple look which I think is something else. Maybe dragon's breath or some kind of art glass. I haven't seen any pink as part of the reflection of a saphiret.

Interesting the smaller one has little set points and sits higher than the larger one. Maybe they were trying to play up different colors like that. It is a drop dead gorgeous piece in a stunning design.

I've looked at a lot of images of Saphiret recently and the big stone certainly looks promising. Sadly I haven't handled enough to know!. It did seem to be manufactured with different finishes as i've seen glossy, matt and faceted. Classy brooch whatever it is.

Thanks, K. Now that I am looking at more photos of saphiret, I am certainly finding examples that are more yellowish, like mine. I thought it had to be brick red. And I read that if saphiret had less blue, that meant it had less gold added to it.
I took the photos in natural daylight, btw, without flash.
