Hi, all: I have three pieces of glass I need help with. Only one is signed but I cannot make out the signature. Here are the pics....

The only think I can make out is the year at the end, "96". Does anyone recognize this? It's just under 6" tall.

This next one has a faint amber color, a combination of satin and clear glass with iridescence. It is a compote measuring 5" tall and 5 3/8" diameter. I've seen some Steuben ones that look kind of similar but I don't know if this has that quality.....

The last piece I am stumped with is a gorgeous ceiling globe or shade. The closest I can find with similar style and shape appears to be WAS Benson Powell, a company I'd never heard of before I went searching for something similar to this. Anyone recognize it?

    Thanks so much for looking!

#1 - Most likely China. See the unpolished grey bottom, generally a clue to Asian.

#2 - Appears to be satin glass from the Depression era. Don't know who.

#3 - A Real Beauty. Opalescent ceiling globe. May have hung down from a chain. Could have been part of a chandelier. Time period probably 1920ish.

Never heard of Benson Powell, maybe someone else has. Did you check around the rim where it would have gone into the fitter? You're looking for a very light acid etch mark. You may or may not find one.

Well I should have read and looked a little closer. Didn't even see the reference to/or the signature.
    Sorry.

LOL, that's okay. I see an unpolished bottom and I think, "China" usually, too. The signature has thrown me, though.

I'm sorry, I should have mentioned that part of the signature did look like "Ben" to me, too, and I have searched Google images for both "Ben" and "Benjamin" art glass and found nothing similar. There appears to be another letter in the signature before the "Ben", though. Can you see that in my terrible pictures? Believe me, the pictures are better than what I can see in person! LOL.

Thank you for all the responses! I agree the ceiling globe is stunning. I'm thinking about keeping it but have no idea where I would use it and have it be seen and admired in my house. :) I would really like to identify it in any case! I did look at the collar with a loupe for a signature and found nothing. This is the shade I found that seemed the most similar to mine. However, obviously, it still is pretty different from mine.

The compote didn't photograph as nice as it looks in person. I will have to try other backgrounds to see if I can get better pictures. (And, maybe clean it! LOL)

Thanks again! Maybe someone else will come along who recognizes one or all three of these pieces.

Yeah, I saw those, too and you could be right. However, there's no maker name attached to any of those. What would the opalescent pattern be called on mine? Basketweave? Lattice?

Wile NOWHERE as nice as yours, when faced with the same challenge of using or selling a light fixture/globe (one that has sentimental attachments) I went with my private bath:

    MVC-299S.JPG

(it was originally hung circa 1920, in an enclosed sun room with matching sconces and another, flatter ceiling fixture. fortunately the historical society didn't want it)

Nice! Yes, maybe I will look for a hanging fixture like that. Unfortunately, my California Bungalow has standard 8' ceilings. So, it will have to be a shorter fixture or someplace out of the way where no one can walk into it.

    I used opalescent swirl.
You could try opalescent lattice and see if anything comes up.
You might even throw in the term Art Glass and see if something else comes up.

Unless this were something by Steuben, Durand, Quezel, or one of the other big names, I'm not sure it matters who made it. The ones mentioned usually signed their work, - well maybe not Durand.

I doubt I could get $150 in my store, but that is where I would probably start. Can always come down. That one marked $795 seems way out of line.

They say this is the original fitter. Not so sure. I think you should be able to order something along the same lines if you wanted to use it somewhere in your house.
Although this style might not fit a CA bungalow.

Acorn shaped! LOL, just figured out the shape of the shade!

Well, as far as style goes, at least I think the shade would have been made before my house was built. So, it's conceivable that it could have been used in this house when it was new.

I think I found where I can put it, too! I'll have to get a new fixture, but it can go right above my head here in my office. I've never liked this fixture anyway, though I hardly notice it anymore.....

Eeewwww! Don't look at the thick layer of dust! :) See? I don't notice that ugly fixture enough to even clean it ever!

My bath is one of the few rooms that has an 8' ceiling, but it looked ridiculous hanging from a 14" ceiling, so into the bath it went! But it hangs over lavatory and water closet - I seldom walk on top of either!

An update. I listed the first glass piece, the blue vase. Today someone emailed to let me know the artist! Paul Bendzunas. Just thought everyone would like to know. Have a great day!

Powell: maybe they meant the Whitefriars Powell. They made opalescent lattice work.
