I found a few that say it's Eros, inspired by the sculptor Lysippus.

The photo I posted was just a sngle bust (Getty images) When I searched again all I could find was your image. It is more like a copy of the small image I posted.

Another Canova Cupid & Psyche is this one:

    This is a little closer:

I can't find the bust popsycat showed, even specifying Getty images. Did find this:

The Canovas I can find represent Cupid as a youth, not as a boy. The Lysippos is closer, if not exact.

I can't understand how I hit on that small image, copied it and could never find it again.

It is suprising how many busts of Clytie are for sale on t'internet. Various descriptions, inc, Handel and Josephine Bonaparte. Even I have one in the house.

Think every kid who was taking piano lessons when my mother was had Mozart & Beethoven staring at them.

For those interested but may not know: Clytie was a nymph hopelessly in love with Phoebus Apollo. He's not interested & then she does something that makes him despise her, so all she can do is watch him as he traverses the sky each day, pining until she turns into a flower that keeps its face to the sun. We think of sunflowers but ancients may have had in mind heliotrope.

The look of petals around the famous bust of this girl are probably all that led to an ID of Clytie. She is now thought to be a portrait of an actual person; Antonia Minor is the leading candidate.

She turns up in the cameo world & these two by Luigi Rosi live with me.

Don't you just hate that? It has happened to me plenty of times so that I have learned to take more care to keep the link with the pic.
