The stretchers are new and the back of the canvas does not show a lot of age but could have been relined.

I would wonder if not a bit later than 1810s. Waist still high but skirt looks a bit too full and sleeves a bit too exaggerated for Regency. This is American circa 1835.

The First French Empire was 1804-1815, roughly Regency. A period when skirts were tubular. From your link... High waist, fuller skirt, exaggerated sleeve. 1835.

My favorite words in the English language! "You're right!" Thank you for being so gracious.

The balloon sleeves were balanced by short bell-shaped skirts. Not my favorite fashion period.

Interestingly, the setting of the 1940 production of Pride and Prejudice was moved forward to the 1830s because it was thought the period's fashions would better showcase Greer Garson's curves. Still, as you can see, great liberties were taken. (I suspect the popularity of Gone with the Wind is to blame.)

    Is it American or European?
About the age, more like mid 1800’s?
The frame I guess is not period?
Looks professionally restored so I doubt if there was any signature they could have mask it with that paper tape.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

That sounds like a reasonable guess. Probably! In order to benefit from the popularity of the film. :)
