Houseful - What do you make of the hole in the grey area in James' picture posted just before your quoted post? Would such hole - with very clean edge - even be possible in a canvas?

James - what is your observation of that hole and what it reveals?

The hole has been magnified and is only the depth of the painting

Would you know of anyone who is an expert on Avecedo Bernal

    Thanks in advance

Could have been from the woodworm that was on the supporting board ????

That's hard to say. Is there a corresponding hole in the materials between the now-removed board and the painting? Were the "wood worm" holes on the inward-facing side of the board?

    Yes,

I have taken the infested board out.

Bakersgma, I'm thinking paper or card rather than fibrous canvas, but ready to be proved wrong. Houseful

If it is an expert on Acevedo Bernal you're looking for, you could contact the national museum in Bogotá, Colombia:
    http://www.museonacional.gov.co/Paginas/default.aspx
Be sure to check the spelling of the name, as Bulldog and Komo have pointed out:).
Here is a museum search page with results on Acevedo Bernal:
    http://www.museonacional.gov.co/busqueda/Paginas/results.aspx?k=Búsqueda...Acevedo Bernal

Can't find an email address anywhere, but you could try it through these people, it is a Colombian 'what's on' page, email option top right hand corner:
