Any ideas?

    I have just found this and I've got absolutely no idea what it is, what it's made of, where it might be from.

    I found it inside a metal tin not much bigger than the actual piece which is about 10cm in diameter. It's not particularly heavy and I can't workout what the part/material attached to it is.

    Any takers?

    Can you possibly take a rubbing of the writing around the edge of the side with the people?

    A rubbing as in a bit of lead over paper?

    Yes, some kind of thin paper & soft pencil or crayon rubbed on just hard enough to pick up only the high places on the seal.
