My last one for now relates to this fine faience jug.

I found a similar but not identical mark in my Faience Marks book and that is H Boulenger Choisy Le Roi c 1867

I’ve been unable to find any similar pieces by Boulanger.

    What do you think?

    Thanks as always.

Reading the blurb, is this a late 19th c mark? I wonder how long it was used. M.G. Would be the painter’s initials, but dang, this looks newer to me.

Yes. It’s a late. 19th c Mark. MG will be the decorator and 89 is possibly the date. I’m making more enquiries now That I know the maker.

Although it looks new I’m certain it is an antique. I recently sold a Blois faience jug from the same period and that too looked new.

This probably doesn't have anything you don't already know but it says this mark was in use around the turn of the century and they discontinued making tin-glazed ware by 1920. From Discovering Dutch Delftware by Van Hook.

Thanks for that. Royal Boch put me in touch with a Facebook group of Boch collectors. I am asking them if they can tell me any more. Thanks again for all your help.

And here is the Facebook response

“Vase of the form 89/2 with decoration 39, painted by Mathias Guillaume, who joined Boch in 1870 and worked in particular in the House of painters. He was born in Saint-Vaast on September 5, 1858 and was therefore not Dutch ...”
