I am inclined to say basket ring rather than child's bracelet. They were/are also used on baskets for hats etc.

I think also on the basket ring.

How can you tell for sure the difference between a basket ring and a child's bangle bracelet? @judy @Christmasjoy @2manybooks @Any Jewelry

Is it because the inner surface is not flattened? My four jade bangles all have this.
But I see many jade bangle bracelets that don't have that flattened inner circumference.

    I'm very curious!

I really don't know how to tell the difference. Jewelry experts?

I just know that I have seen many of the baskets bedecked as shown in the photo above. Many of them were "dethroned" though and probably for the jade.

I read up on Chinese sewing baskets just now.
The descriptions I read say that the rings on baskets are embellishment.
And every single one I looked at said the material was glass, not jade. @kardinalisimo 's ring appears to be dyed jadeite.

    I still say it's a baby/child's bangle.

The Fashion Trend of Jade Bangle Bracelets
Note in this article: Many women will wear a small jade bangle around their wrist without ever taking it off..

This tells me two notable things: 1. The bangle may have been worn since early childhood, therefore small, and 2., Oriental women have traditionally been smaller than Western women.

So when calling a very small circumference jade bangle a "baby" bracelet it may not be so wrong. OTH, if worn since baby days it could still be on the wrist in adult years if no one ever took it off.

How did these smallish jade bracelets survive intact for us to find, buy and admire then? Well, they must have come off, eventually.

Child bangle. Jade bangles are supposed to protect the user. The more expensive the bangle, the higher level of protection. If you ever knock it and it brakes, that's proof it did its job! If it hadn't you would have broken a bone, have an accident of some kind that would result in physical injury, etc. If someone paid $20k for one of these, s/he may walk away without a scratch from a totalled car looking like a crumbled piece of paper. You get the drill. :joyful:
Then of course, for jade connoisseurs/collectors, it's also an investment. Children's however are just for protection and ward off evil.

I am on my 4th bangle. The previous one I wore for 13 years straight. I never took it off. I have had others before which developed hairline cracks.
I have a new one now that I've been wearing nonstop since last summer.
I like wearing them. I don't know for sure if they are lucky, but I'm still here, so I guess they are!

No reason there needs to be a difference. Made the same way, they could have been used for either purpose (or others). Most rings found on sewing baskets today are Peking glass, but I believe this is because the jade ones have long ago been removed and collected for the jade. I know one Chinese collector who always checked the baskets at the local auction to see if any jade had escaped notice.

I'm sure that long ago wealthy ladies probably did have jade embellishments on their sewing baskets. And on their arms!
