Anyone recognize this hallmark?

Hi - I purchased this piece recently. I found it to be quite beautiful and feel like it's probably German. However, I don't recognize the hallmark underneath. Perhaps someone can offer up some info on this piece and the maker. Thanks!

 

Röntgen's book of marks has it as unidentified but it's on Chris's site as Japan.

A rare case in which this mark is actually accompanied by 'JAPAN', preventing sellers from digging up their usual 'antique French' (or similar) nonsense.

 

& that's not called a Hallmark.........more of a makers mark !

 

Anyone have any idea of approximate value? Glad I didn't pay a fortune for it.

But..
the image transcends time.....& had I seen this 2 years ago I would have bought it for my wife.....cuz that's how I proposed ....minus Cupid !!
So, I'd say there is more value there than what you paid for it !

 

Even though my piece is not marked Japan, I'm assuming that a piece carrying the red "JAPAN" mark would have been made for export anywhere from approximately 1920 to 1941. Does that sound about right?

 

I'm very sorry but I have no idea. About all I know is that things from Japan often have stickers that get lost over time.
