    Hello,
Does any one know who the artist is?
It is an oil painting and is 2'x3'. There is a tag in the back of the frame that indicates some Scottish connection. Thanks.

Can't help, but I really like the painting and think it would do better in a duller frame.

Wow, I never thought I would see a Theodorus van Oorschot painting on Antiquers!:jawdrop: I knew him, he was a good friend of my aunt, and my parents had several of his paintings! My aunt even named her cat after him, which he didn't like at all.:hilarious:
The frame maybe, but Theodorus, we called him Dorus, was born in Schijndel, in the east of the province of Noord Brabant, the Netherlands. A stone's throw from where I live. He died there in 1989.
The subject looks to be from my part of the country, but I would have to search which bridge it actually is.

The frame has nothing to do with a Dorus van Oorschot painting. He lived and painted in the 20th century, and his work is Brabant Impressionist.

Here is a van Oorschot which has the same feel as yours:

@Ex Libris , this has to be in or near our neck of the woods, do you recognize the bridge and scenery?:)

Thank you so much!!! Over the years I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the name with no luck. I bought this painting back in late 90's in an antique mall in Peoria-Illinois. My wife and I both really liked the painting, and we liked the frame too :) I just found another painting of his that looks like the same scene/location:

Does look like the same scene. The work auctioned by Christie's is entitled 'A Peaceful Day on the River.' Isn't that lovely?

This could be one of the canals in Brabant like the "Zuid Willemsvaart" or Wilhelminakanaal. I was raised next to the Wilhelmina canal, but I don't recognize this specific spot. There are not so many villages or towns right next to the canals though (Like Aarle Rixtel).

It also could be a river in the area called the Dommel.
