Country of origin? Is this is a religious figure? I am at a loss. 2 1/4" wide by 3" tall (including bail). The pearly middle layer that the central figure is placed on is bringing up memories from my childhood. I don't know why I buy stuff like this. I'll throw in the first WAG: St. Nicholas.

Yes! With that, I found one with a different figure (still described as St Nicholas) on the same exact background. Thank you!

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Kinda looks like a goldish foil...???

I'd agree Eastern Orthodox. Coptic, even.

I thought it was Edward I right off the bat, but... I'm a heathen Baptist.

I don’t think it’s the same shape as a Hamsa Hand, if that’s what you meant.

I think any bishop/doctor of the Church may be depicted with a Bible. This one says 'NIK' on it, hence Nicholas. It is not written in Cyrillic, it's Greek, an abbreviation for Άγιος Νικόλαος.

The shape reminded me of a hamsa also. And my first impression of the figure was 'Greek Orthdox'. The two didn't seem to go together though...

Hamsas were used in some Europeans regions as well, except their hamsas had the usual five fingers, not seven like this one.:playful:

The protective charms below are from Bavaria (the word Bayern in the caption means Bavaria). We see those Bavarian filigree hands regularly where I am, they are always sold as Moroccan.;)

Me thinks it's perchance more tribal than polished? Perhaps Middle East?

I know virtually nothing about Christian iconography but thought of the similarity to the hamsa also and flashed that there’s so much cross cultural appropriation throughout history.

While I'm reminded of the shells brought back by pilgrims to the Holy Land. Think St. James has one for a symbol.

St. Nicholas has mostly a bishop's staff and a book.
