Curiousity, the cat, and this fobathing.

    Found this decades ago, in a bag; kept it because I didn't have time then to research it. Have done, am still baffled. It's 3 9/16ths inches long, the medallion at the bottom is bakelite, the metal is some sort of brass/copper mix, but I have no idea of its function. Help?

    It's half of a coat or cape closure. The two metal loops on the back were used to sew it on the garment. The other half was sewn on the other side of the garment opening and would have had a ring or bar to hook into.

    Or, it might have had a connecting piece to match the twisted rope-like element. Here's a similar one.
