I found this bottle in a clearance this week.
    It measures 3" x 3"

Very crude with a bent neck and many bubbles and faults.

    It has a seam.

    The internal base slopes.

    No lettering

Too clumsy for a perfume bottle.

Am I an idiot to suggest that it could be an inkwell bottle? Sat inside a brass container, perhaps?

I did think inkwell, but I have little knowledge of glass.

Certainly looks like an inkwell. Like this one. This one is older and hand-blown.

Thought the same, but neck looks a bit to long and narrow

I'd have thought ink bottle also. Here is my favorite go to website for bottles and while it's a US site it's pretty good. It has ink bottles as well as mucilage etc.

I agree. Not an INK WELL bottle, but an Ink Bottle.

Thank you. Of course. Clarity in language important. I stand corrected.

Bottled ink, late Victorian. Would have had a cork. Pretty typical of those found on dumps. The earlier ones have broken tops as that was how you opened the seal.
