Over the years I have bought the occasinal office calculating machine, from the older
    like this Muldiva

To the day before yesterday's example

    1-P1040085.JPG
With new fangled electricity but still basically mechanical.

My theory was that as these things vanished from offices, someone would start collecting them apart from just me.

Has anyone else got anything they are convinced will be all the rage someday, but it seems, just not yet?

If you make lamps out of them, I think they would be a hit.

I will try to forget you suggested that. Skin my babies and make Decor out of them............Arg!

Anyway, I don't think Britain is ready for the typewriter lamp.

The obsolete items of yesterday only become collectible after I throw away the ones I have been holding since they became no longer useful

I agree with Terry on this.
And things are only collectible until I buy one (or three), and then they no longer are.

I think a lot of future collectibles in the pottery and glass area will be stuff that was decorative giftware, as it has been in the past.

But what is in favor in the antique world has a lot to do with decorating trends I think - and I can't predict them... Obviously...

    Hi,
Sue you made me laugh at the words '"make anything into a lamp". I bought a Federal style large 18 armed brass chandelier in the Bowery in NYC. I asked the man working there how much would it be to have all the electric parts pulled out. The man says in a very heavy Yiddish accent. why did I want the electric pulled out. I explained I wanted to use real candles in it. he says You will burn down your house. I said no I have tall ceilings and it was going over a dining table. He says "Mister, 80 years I have been working here, people always bring in things and say electricify them. The brought me watering cans, plaster statues so many things, you are the first person to ever ask me take the electric out." He did it no charge since he could use the gutted parts.

This one is not even a camcorder, the recording is separate, as is the power. But Akai was a top name at the time and I have googled a few in museums.

More collectables than antiques but I have saved every Debit/credit card I`ve ever had.
When they expire most are cut up or shredded and discarded.
In a 100 years time they will be selling like hot cakes.

More for the UK than anywhere else is the collecting of Car Tax discs which ceased to be issued in September this year.
I have dozens from all my cars dating back to the 70`s and some of my Dads including the last ever issued.

    Hi,
I started saving phone cards way back when. Five years ago I tossed them, I hope I'm dead before they bring big bucks.

Ive got my library cards from all over the country. I have no idea why ! I also think art glass from the 70s-90s ,wich is dirt cheap now, will be collectible in the future. I only wish I had room for some, LOL !

I think people sell old Starbuck's cards already. I just give them to the grandkiddies to play with.
