Beautiful sheath of wheat carving on top and shape have me thinking it’s likely for grain storage. Would make a good hamper too though.

That's a "sheaf" of wheat, not a sheath.

Loose grain - no - it isn't old enough to consider that.
    "hamper" not an appropriate size.

But I have no other ideas, so hopefully someone else does.

I love the carving on top! It is a nice chunk. I think seller is asking $40. Maybe I’ll try to cut them in half and use it for loose posters and prints. My tubes are disappearing from shipping needs.

I would guess komokwa was right at a few feet. I don’t own it though. I may, but not yet.

Good call. I’d like to think it’s because I was in a hurry but I’m not so sure I haven’t spelled it that way before!

Typically the type of thing I would have grabbed first and asked questions second. With Covid and no work I’ve been trying to be slightly more judicious. Of course this is the one thing I actually practice that judgement on. I bought a car full of other junk this weekend I only think I’ll do ok on, lol.

I've seen these all over France. Typical baguette box. Nice one too.
