    Thanks everyone. I think I will use 'mis-strike', although, and correct me if I am wrong, it's used mostly for coins and medals.

    Depends on your sentence construction. :)
    That should be true but I don't know that that is a description common to badges/pins but should be fine. It explains the issue.
