1970's glass wine thing

I found the name but only wine bottles I found, what the ???? is this ?

When I first saw it I thought of a Hydrometer (I'm probably waaaaaay off)

 

If it is open at the narrow end, I think for drawing samples out of barrels...................if not, I got nada.................

 

Hydrometer, that's what I thought too when I first seen it, then I noticed the cork.

 

It's Hungarian for absolutely certain; the writing is all in that language. I think it's for tasting wine straight from the barrels as Mansons mentioned.

I think you're right. From lake Balaton, a beautiful wine growing region in western Hungary. The firm (export?) seems to be based in Budapest.
I may have sampled wine from this while staying in the region. I remember a strange wine tasting night in the 80s, when a Hungarian tried to get me to smuggle him across the border. I didn't fancy spending the rest of my life in a Hungarian jail, besides, he had been an extreme pain in the neck before, so I refused.
