Didnt know if I should post this in Metalware or in this forum. Please let me know if it would be more appropriate in Metalware.

Found this sword in the home of my late 93 year old dad. I don't know anything about it or where it came from. It has a 20" blade and a 6 1/2" handle and is very heavy. It reminds me of the sword from "the Sword in the Stone". i could find no marks.

Can anyone tell me anything about it such as what kind of sword it is, if it is genuine or reproduction, how old it might be and where it might be from?

Thanks in advance for any info you can give me!

Oops, I already answered this in your other thread.
It is a wrought iron ornamental flambard dagger/sword, general European style. This one is purely decorative.
The flambard shape was introduced in northern Europe in the 13th century and quickly spread to other parts of Europe. It is called flambard because of the flickering flame shape.

I immediately thought it was a kris, but I guess those have asymmetrical blades.

Komo, yours is asymmetrical. But it is 'lurus' straight. About 60% are straight, 40% are wavy.
Symmetrical kerises do exist, but are extremely rare. Here is one of mine, an ancient, very fragile one. The shape is called sepang, it promotes spiritual balance. Pamor keleng, or empty pamor, so no designs on the blade. Pamor keleng is for mystical kerises.

I should get my terms straight ....straighter than the blade !!!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Ah, yes, ca. 900 yrs and still in one piece. When I got it, it was rattling around in a big sheath. This one fits nicely, and the keris is safe.
