    Hi there,
Here is an old antique rustic kettle made of Bronze ,Brass or Copper..?? Don't have a clue...The metal has been altered and have this Green Patina Corrosion ....
Don't feel yet to clean and remove the Corrosion..It does look nice as it is...How many liters of water have been boiled into this Kettle...A lot I suppose.
Not so sure about the Period..Will think middle XIXtt cent..?? Maybe older..??
Not sure either about the Origine...??? Please help if you know.
    Dim: Top=15cm dim/Up Hole 14.5cm/Body 26cm/Base 18cm
Thanks in advance to give me your expertise and acknowledgements accordingly.

19thC (possibly 18thC) Chinese cast bronze. A simple country piece probably from the local area bronze foundry that supplied the surrounding villages. Here is a more elaborate one with the typical swivel cap on the spout.

It might sound flippant but not meant to be...not to say they don't exist, but see how many European cast bronze kettles you can find going back a few hundred years. Copper, brass, cast iron, pewter, Britannia Metal, silver yes, but cast bronze and with a flip cover on the spout Chinese style?

One thing to remember in your quest, it was we late blossoming western civilisations that plagiarised many ideas/designs from the ancient civilisations. Our pottery and porcelain teapot designs from the early-mid 18thC onwards were copied from the Chinese as was may dinnerware patterns.

I do agree 100% with you...But During this Colonial route which started from the Portuguese ,The Dutch..and others after them....The comptoirs of their bases had accomodate some of the colons with the local community...So I won't be surprised that could have been influenced by chinese style with metal available at the time...I might be wrong but it interest me a lot...!!! This kettle is and looks heavy..Not in a style of delicate chinese manufacturing...Even if very old....A la maniere de...!!!!

Agreed, but I have to return to my original anomaly, who where when and why were any Europeans smelting bronze for domestic use in the past several centuries. Bronze for the past several hundred years has been a semi-precious metal amongst Europeans. It could even have been cast in China for a European family, ("accomodate some of the colons with the local commuity") a diplomat or similar in the western style as with western stylised Chinese exports of the late 17thC and onwards, but that spout cover for me puts it firmly of Chinese origin unless someone can come up with a more fallible theory.

Do you what...I am going to try cleaning it....But have to find out how...Don't want to altere anything on the metal..But have to remove this green old patina of old corrosion...Maybe I will find a mark or a sign...But i have to google or ask somebody which is the best way to give this old item its natural look....Promise I will show it to you...But I think it is a big job...???

Interesting, but in the context of plagiarising Chinese/Asian designs, the Dutch were one of the earliest to import and COPY Chinese blue and white porcelain from which they derived their own style of Dutch Delft.

Ohh Yes...Particulary during the VOC Time they used Japanese Imary Ceramic to have their Logo on it dated I think 1745 something...All Asian China which came from this route...End of 17 staring 18th cent had been copied after y all....It was a fashion to have French,British,Dutch etc Ceramic makers to have this called .."Decors au chinois" on their China..Faience or Porcelaine....In France Moustiers,Strasbourg,Marseille...Took the opportunity to copy....Even Samadet Faillence that I like so much...

...Sorry "Faience" of Samadet was a small Manufacture of Ceramic in the 18th cent..With a Moustiers Senior maker (Whom left Moustiers...)to provide the Court of the King with a new style...I am originally from near this Village....And the Fashion decor au Chinois had been used during this time...They are quite rare....
