Age of chair?

Any idea how old this might be?

 

It looks like a rustic, splint-seat version of the "corner chairs" that were popular in the 18th century with gentlemen who liked to spread their legs wide when sitting. As it was probably made by a country chair maker, and styles persisted longer away from cities, I would guess that it's from the early-to-mid 1800s, but it could be older. The legs may have been cut down.

 

Guesses 19th-century country corner chair with a woven splint seat. The feet are ended out so that hurts value.

 

If you are wondering what collectors are looking for in period corner chairs, here is one I went after 10-15 years ago at auction and, was blown TOTALLY outa the water. I forget the estimate, ditto hammer price but I think it was around 20k range for this chair.

Well you know, probably had a "tease" estimate but, it is an outstanding example in very good condition, add in that tiger maple and BAM! BIG NUMBERS!

 

I'd still guess 1st half 19th century so it's old, just not period. Reason being it has 2 "slats" instead of the usual 1 slat on late 18th century country roundabout (corner) chairs.
Either way though doesn't matter much value wise but, those ended out feet do matter.
I see single slat country roundabouts going in the 100-300 range at auction in fair to good condition so your chair would be on lower end of that range. It has value just not a lot, doll collectors maybe for using it as a prop to display dolls.
Pottery people for example will sometimes pay good money for 19th century bucket benches, I am guessing to display their jugs/pots.

 

Mid-19th century. Nice n' rustic....there has to be a market for it in the world of primitives.

Yeah is, it's got an out of this world price tag to go with it!
