I want to have some large initials filled in. I noticed the types of pieces with engraving sell for quite less than those without.
I dont imagine it'd increase the value b/c it wouldn't be the original without engraving....but I'm wondering if it'd devalue it at all if I had the engraving filled in?
Is it something more or less any jeweler can do? I imagine they just fill in a thin layer of silver and buff it

I was reading about it as I made the post and it looks like they also use a laser to remove them.....but it depends on how it was engraved in the first place.... I'd imagine these antiques by hand. Now days its by laser machine often times.

A laser does not "remove" the engraving,it fills the engraving with silver, etc.

Buff it out with jewellers paste on a buffing wheel.
