What is this?

I'm helping my friend find out what this piece of furniture is. Is it a custom piece, or does it have a name? Each drawer is actually a separate piece. It's not all one piece like a standard dresser/chest. Any ideas?

Would be termed a chest on chest, or in this case, a chest on chest on chest .... lol! Not a typical form so may well be a modern import. Otherwise, something someone cobbled together from parts.

18th century campaign furniture?

 

No idea, never seen it before, don't understand what function it is supposed to serve.

 

One thing I do find odd is, all the drawer pulls are different as well as depth of drawers

 

Why don't you supply us with some additional photographs. Showing drawer construction, for instance? And the back.
