The lack of crispness in the carving leads me to think its a reproduction piece, perhaps from the 40s or 50s .Im no expert though so wait for our furniture guru's .

I'd go with Johnny on this. Looks like a mid 20th century take on an earlier French chair. Sad to say that it's not worth alot; less than $100.

    ooh la-la, c'est très bien! ;)
This model chair has been so succesful throughout the ages that it keeps coming back every now and then, even early 2000s there were new chairs made in this style.

Op's "picture 2" shows that the chair was poorly made. The top of the back is now out-of-line with wood on either side, meaning a lasting joint such as dowels or biscuits wasn't used, maybe just glue. The makers were after an elegant outer appearance and forgot about quality construction. Color of center top is way different too, suggesting a lasting finish wasn't used. I'm a furniture dummy but some of the issues on this chair kinda scream at you.

Pretty floral brocade does a good job of masking the chair's imperfections.
