I’m presuming this is a Catholic Reliquary?
It’s just base metal and stamped Germany.
Are these still a popular item or is it possible to date this?
Fortunately it doesn’t contain any random scraps of Saints teeth or bones! :yuck:
It’s about 1.5 inches long. Thanks for looking :)

I've seen them holding mini statues of saints. Reliquaries are usually sealed. If there's a saint associated with the color red it's probably his. Christopher and Anthony would be my top guesses; they'd use blue for Mary.

That’s interesting. I didn’t know about the colours. Thankyou :)

Mary has been associated with blue for yoinks. I run into the reliquary charms and pendants once in a while, and religious charms early and often. The bigger stuff is generally in a church somewhere, but as far as I know they're usually sealed shut.

The colour can also apply to the season in a Catholic church, too. Lent, Advent, and so on.

Maybe it had a little crucifix in it for worship whilst travelling?

Red: The color of blood and, therefore, of martyrdom. Worn on the feasts of martyrs as well as Palm Sunday, Pentecost, Good Friday and celebrations of Jesus Christ's passion.

"The pope currently dons a crimson outer-garment because it expresses the church's belief -- like the martyrs -- that he is a witness of the faith,"

The cardinals wear red because they are considered the closest advisers to the pope and therefore should be ready to shed their blood for the church and Christ.

Not a reliquary, just a little souvenir from a place of pilgrimage. So no teeth.:bucktooth:
I had a couple when I was young, all with tiny figures of Mary statues from pilgrimage sites.
Maybe in the US, but not these German ones. We had these overhere as well and the ones for Mary pilgrimages (which is what we have here generally anyway) always had red glass or red foil. I think that is the standard colour for these pilgrimage souvenirs.

Oh well. I'm just a Baptist; I only know what I've learned from finding stuff left laying around by escaped Catholics. :)

My grandfather was an altar boy. Bugged out of Poland, or what became Poland, in 1910 and never went into a church again except for weddings and funerals. (LOL)
