Antique paste shoe buckles any info please

    Does that mark in the 2nd pic down say made in France ? Can you get closer pics of that? is that another mark of some sort next to it? Possibly a Minerva head?

    Hello, thanks for the advice and comments, just wanted to find out more about the age of the buckles and maybe if they were worth anything this is the closest i can get to the marking

    As I'm sure you saw, the pair in The Met is dated to 1915-1925. They are not marked "France" as your pair is. Typically, similar buckles are described as Art Deco, of French manufacture and dating to the 1920s. An internet search of sale sites will bring up comparable pairs and either asking prices or sales prices or both.

    Hi and WELCOME, @dazzjohn!! Well, if they were Elton John's, those surely would be REAL diamonds!!!!! They're pretty neat looking but sorry, I can't really help..:sorry:

    Early shoe buckles (17,18,19th centuries) had a catch system.
    Those 20th were sewn on the shoe, as they were evening/ball wearing the shoes were velvet or satin :)

    Thank you, kyratango. I had assumed women changed them regularly, like earrings. I never considered sewn on.

    lloyd249 it's not hoarding if it's valuable

    I have seen some old pairs with the catch system that Kyra speaks about on antiques roadshow .org. you might want to check the archives.
