The woman who sold me this thing had it upside down, I think. She thought it was some sort of jardinière (not very practical in my opinion because it is hollow top to bottom)... but it might be a candle holder or a lampfoot..
This is how it was presented in the store: 2017-02-22 15.45.18.jpg and this is how I think it should be: 2017-02-22 15.44.38.jpg 2017-02-22 15.45.09.jpg 2017-02-22 15.44.51.jpg 2017-02-22 15.44.57.jpg ...further more the usual, how old and where from?

I would venture that this was the base of something larger. A lamp or a bird-cage or some such similar object.

Wouldn't that just make the best gazing ball holder.

    Hi,
I would give it house room. I often buy punch bowl bases that are upside down. people think they are "vases". of course now I have three that I can not find the punch bowls that they go with.

It may have held a planter or a bird bath. It's a nice piece of casting and I'm happy you turned the poor thing right side up!

Hi all. I am betting this is a base from an old style floor lamp. That is my 2 cents.
