Is there a name for this type of tree ornament? I can't seem to find any similar where the hook extends like this. Also are they from around the 50's? Thanks!

I have 6 of them like that and if they were hung from the top then the indent and decoration wouldn't be seen.

I don't know much either.....guess that makes two of us. Anyway just thought maybe someone knew the age of these and what country they were produced in.

They are usually referred to as "indent ornaments". My guess would be German made & they look to be possibly what is commonly known as "mercury glass" but we recently learned that this was actually an inaccurate description of how they were made. However, that is how most of the sellers are going to ID them in their listings. Here are some of the ones listed right now on eBay.

they are called 'diorama' ornaments, Italy was another country that produced them. My first thought was the same as komokwa, someone did a work around to hang an ornament missing the cap, but you are right, if hung by the cap you wouldn't see the insert. I've never seen this before. Do you use Facebook? You could ask on the Golden Glow site, they are a nice group of people:) If you don't use FB I can ask for you

I am late to this, but I think it is called a diorama too.
I sold one years ago with a tiny ballerina on point inside. Very pretty.
Very tricky to ship cause the glue is old and they fall apart. Which is what happened with mine or so the buyer said.
Idiot buyer I had wanted to know if she could collect the refund from me AND from
the post office. Even back then, there were scammers galore. She decided she could add her own glue and fix it.
