Featured Vintage Italian Mosaic pin?

I bought this mosaic pin in hopes of adding to my very small collection of vintage Italian mosaic pieces. The problem is that the back appears to be unused. Also the clasp appears to be strange in that the hinge is a loop of wire. It is 1 3/8 inch by 1 inch. I thought maybe a modern piece instead or perhaps a reproduction. If so, I will donate it back. Any comments will be gratefully appreciated.

That is very helpful. I couldn't see the back as it was covered in an old tag, but now I know to look at the catch more carefully before I grab something up.
