Another set from my Oregon auction. A set of six silver cups and sterling tray. I have identified the tray but could use some help with maker and date of this set of silver cups. The tray weighs about 40 ounces and each cup roughly 4 ounces

    Thanks
    Dan

1922, Roberts & Belk, Sheffield, England.

And I think those are more properly called champagne coupes.

The crown is for Sheffield, England, the lion is the English sterling mark. I think the e in that shape is for 1922. The R&B mark I think is for Roberts & Belk Ltd, but I am a lightweight when it comes to silver marks, wait for other boardies to chime in :)

AHHH, while I was trolling for silver marks looks like Bakersgma dropped by

This was a crazy auction where I exercised very little restraint. These champagne "coupes" are 24 ounces of silver and I paid $75. It took me six hours to unpack everything as it cost me $756 for shipping!

That's a lot of shipping. I hope the boat was included!

Coupes are pretty old-fashioned, aren't they? Do people still use/make them these days?

    They do.
Overhere coupes are generally considered a faux pas, you're supposed to drink champagne from champagne flutes to prevent it from going flat. The large surface of a coupe causes the bubbles to escape.

That is a lot for shipping, packing and insurance. The good news is that I agreed to consign just two of the five louis comfort tiffany pieces that will pay for my entire purchase, including buyers premium and shipping.

This is the final hammer price from Sunday. Never underestimate the importance of the auction house that you choose for consignment.

It was exciting to watch it far exceed the auction estimate of $1000-$1500, Any Jewelry.
