    dear all

the frame is a thin metal plate and the flowers are morning glory, i think. i tried to clean it with a damp soapy cloth but doesn't seem to clean very well. what metal could it be?
the back is covered by "reptile skin" paper. i have included a closeup of the fittings and hope they will help in the dating. 1920s?

    regards

Think 20s would be the earliest for this but could be even a decade or two later. Can't tell much about the metalwork from this pic. A close up of it and maybe a look at that spot where there is corrosion might help.

Poor things need a good ketchup-ing over that green. The green uck is oxidation, probably the brass under the silver plating. Put some ketchup on the green bits and let it sit for a few hours. Wipe off with a damp cloth and a lot of that uck will come with it. Age on the frames? 1920 sounds about right. They're not Deco, but not really Art Nouveau either or Arts and Crafts.

Looks like silverplate over some kind of base metal. Think you improved them by polishing.

as for your other frames , they are made of a combination of lead, copper, brass ,and zinc ( the coating) that is now missing and exposing the copper and lead to oxygen causing it to corrode , this would be a perfect repurpose project to me as in repaint it some funky colors and put some cool pics in it IMO .

thought the frame was very un-chinese, so thought someone may recognise the style. photos were taken earlier. they died before the war ended, 1944-45 :shy:

my best guess would be that the one on the right is the son and the one on the left the mother it does have a 1920's style bed in it and i think the picture were of different eras the mom 1920' and the son the 40's , the son looks to be a jewish doctor or lawyer the way he is dressed but that in just my opinion , I would not do anything to them as they are perfect as is .
