Just got this fabulous dining table! It's solid wood, even the top piece. It smells like rosewood.Supposedly from Italy. Pretty big, 120cm in diameter

Any idea how old it is?
    Im guessing 1880-1930s?

I'd like to hear your thoughts!

Oh I should mention that one leg has worm holes and that there are some 'repairs'.

There are neither numbers nor signatures on the table.

Somehow, the base seems older than the top. Do I see some kind of pine cross-brace for the top? It would not be original.

Yes indeed, it's screwed to the top.

That decorative drape like rim smells like rosewood. Altho, it has holes which someone tried to hide

No, but I did go out earlier today & pick up a honey baked ham. I am not a big turkey fan & I learned my lesson from last year on the ham. Showed up at 5.45 A.M. Wednesday before TG (store opened at 6 a.m.) and the store was already open with a line down the block! 3 hour adventure, AVOIDED that this year!

Yeah agrees, base seems kinda Eastlake (late victorian) to me and the top seems newer. Top looks like mahogany in pic, can't really see the skirt.
In any event, seems assembled from "parts", hope you didn't pay much.:sorry:

    Thank you!
Not at all, 70€. I'm very pleased actually even tho it's 'made from parts'. At least it's solid wood unlike the expensive trash they sell nowadays. I needed a new bigger dining table so this will do just fine.

Would guess that the base, at least, dates to about 1900-1910. It has late Eastlake and Renaissance Revival decorative elements, and it looks like someone went crazy with a hammer and geometric stamp on the legs. The top looks to be mahogany, as James stated, and the x-shaped pine cross brace is indeed recent, as verybrad intimated.

I think the overall form dates back to the tilt-top breakfast tables of the mid 19th century. I'd say the o.p. got a good deal for the price; it certainly seems that it will get some serious use in the near future.

It's really stable and can certainly be used for another 100 years.

Someone desperately tried to fix it. Most of the insect holes are filled which is awesome but those other 'repairs' are just terrible. It cluld be that the top was too damaged so they replaced it.

I don't really care if it's valuable or not, I was curious about the history so thanks guys you are awesome!

Thinks Thanksgiving was officially set up by Abe Lincoln after Gettysburg, we kinda needed one then!
"In the middle of the American Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln, prompted by a series of editorials written by Sarah Josepha Hale, proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day, to be celebrated on the 26th, the final Thursday of November 1863."

Personally, I think everyone needs (at least) a personal Thanksgiving. Helps keep things in perspective.
