You can (carefully) wash negatives in clean water, then hang to dry - lots of tutorials online (for those of us who like to develop our own film). Then put them into new/fresh negative holders. Or, if you plan to sell, just make sure you warn people about the 'stink'! Older items can have a musty smell so I always mention it, but I guess it depends how much it smells...

 

I removed all the negative strips and cleaned the folder & sleeves. Then let it sit out in the sun a bit.
That seemed to do the trick. Thanks so much for the advice!

 

Great, sounds like the smell was in the folder rather that the negs! Glad you managed to clean it up without too many problems

 

The picture of the negative of Alan Alda is not in negative.
Did you reverse the black and white when you posted that?
