are these real places or just someone's imagination?

    dear all

    just wondering if the scenes painted on these plates are real places. no marks except for importer's mark. i think they are hand-painted? a couple of duplicates but with slight difference. they are probably early to mid 1900s.

    i was told that they were used with food, gifts given to close friends and family to commemorate 100 days of mourning :wideyed::happy:

    How interesting. Don't think someone would "imagine" such specific locales. An Old World beach resort(s) with bathers and changing cabins. Sure someone will be able to identify. In meantime, obvious question... no marks on back?

    Very likely. Cliffs and tower distinctive. Someone sure to know.

    Possibly, it has a look of Whitby or Robin Hoods Bay on the east coast but those larger square buildings are putting me off., could even be Scarborough.
    They look typical of many coastal bays around the UK including Scotland and Wales.

    With those attic windows and pointy roofs on square buildings I`m now thinking a Denmark coastal resort.
    But it could also be Margate :D

    Very odd that for a seaside resort, each depicts cloudy skies. Every postcard I've seen of Miami Beach the sun is shining like a torch.
    Perhaps Scandinavian, then? They celebrate gloom?

    Some, though I agree this is not US. But Oceanside Oregon for one has a cliff....and note the cloudy skies.
    There's actually a pedestrian tunnel through the cliff at the left, to allow access to the beaches beyond at high tide.

    just the import company's mark. special import for Penang Straits Settlement (PENANG SS). perhaps it could have been one of those blank plates that were hand-painted in asia? japan perhaps?

    english seaside/beach resort scenes :happy::happy:

    the cloudy skies could be due to poor storage conditions, oils from local "kueh" (cakes) ...... or could just be a true depiction of english weather? :p:p:D:D:hilarious::hilarious:

    Being Dutch I hadn't noticed the clouds. We are extremely surprised when we see a cloudless sky. Where did they go?:confused:
    I've been known to do a little celebratory dance.:shame:
