    @springfld.arsenal
    My dad, in his early years was a High School Industrial Arts teacher, and building things was always a hobby of his. The basement is full of industrial grade tools, including a table saw, a metal lathe (for making gun barrels). a sand blaster, A drill press , a belt grinder, and bullet reloading equipment, plus other items She cant identify. Sis has no idea how to value, or dispose of these items. Any insight as to value of such stuff and the best way to sell them would be appreciated. Dad always kept his stuff in tip top condition. Here are some bad pics that sis took which probably wont help, but it's all I got right now.

    You don't know what you have. You need a good auction house. Or you need to learn each item yourself.

    That's the rub Terry. It's in Rural Michigan, there are no GOOD auction houses close by for my sister to consult. She is going to get me all the model numbers and pictures of the bigger machinery, so I can do some research here, but until then I'm flying blind. As for the guns and ammo, she wants to take it to a local dealer and just sell it all to him. I'm thinking there are some pretty valuable guns there......and there is a list of what they are and what my father values them for, but that and reality, can be very different. I do need to find an auction house that specializes in guns.....which I am researching. Getting them there across state lines might be a problem too......I haven't got that far yet.

    The second amendment applies nationwide.

    Michigan is a depressed area. May be worthwhile shipping to Ohio.

    Time is part of the equation. Time to learn will yield better prices.

    Most of the larger shop equipment is likely of little real value for its bulk and weight. A handful of the right little pieces can be worth much more. I've sold rifle magazines for more than I got for the gun.

    Thanks Terry! I have located an auction specializing in Guns, and sent the info to my sister. If nothing else she can get an evaluation of the collection.
    She is frustrated because she learned today that even as executor of the trust, she has to get a separate EIN before she can do anything with it. That could take 3 to 6 months. that may give us more time to figure stuff out.

    Apply Online
    The Internet EIN application is the preferred method for customers to apply for and obtain an EIN. Once the application is completed, the information is validated during the online session, and an EIN is issued immediately. The online application process is available for all entities whose principal business, office or agency, or legal residence (in the case of an individual), is located in the United States or U.S. Territories. The principal officer, general partner, grantor, owner, trustor etc. must have a valid Taxpayer Identification Number (Social Security Number, Employer Identification Number, or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) in order to use the online application.

    Getting an EIN for a trust isn't a big deal, Mike. I'm pretty sure that when we established Mom's Irrev Trust back in 2005 that her lawyer got one issued in days at the most.

    Thank you Terry and Bakers! your help is most appreciated. Sis is not too internet savvy, and she said she tried it online at the library today, but she couldn't figure out how to sign the form after she filled it out, She was trying to sign it on the screen with her finger. (electronic signatures are totally foreign to her). and the librarian would not help her because the form contained personal information. I just called her and told her she could get it immediately online. I told her to go to the lawyer or her tax person on Friday (next day off) and have them go through it with her. (I also explained electronic signatures to her Sheesh!)

    Grinder shown might sell at something under $100., small Jet-brand lathe some amount probably under $1000. I can’t use those but would recommend trying CL since free and will be local pickup items. Most replies u get from CL will be scams so don’t put personal contact info in there. One popular scheme run from overseas is they want something they know nothing about and want it shipped to Moldova or somewhere, immediately, must send u large amt $ so u must send extra $ back, their check takes days to bounce and you are out some big $.

    I can’t tell anything about the guns without seeing them of course. If the guns are similar desirability to the machine tools then about any auction house with a good reputation should work, local or otherwise.

    If there are rare guns in very good condition then you should choose a larger house used to selling higher-ticket stuff, maybe one not too awfully far would be Rock Island Auctions. But if the guns aren’t “high ticket” RIA probably wouldn’t take them. If antique guns involved, might try Cowan’s in Cincinnati. I’ve sent guns and ammo to Redding Auctions in Gettysburg Pa and gotten decent results, they’re a family-run place, totally honest, quick payout.

    Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

    Huh? -- As a librarian myself, I'm guessing that the librarian wouldn't be able to do certain things for her (like, actually sign it or type information in). But surely they could help! Those kinds of stories bother me on a professional level. Librarians and staff should be there to help people. Yes, there are some areas where we can't but... from what you've said I don't think that helping with that form should be one of those areas.

    Yes UPS only is correct, Ms. Spring has an account there just for that, Friday she sent a rare US 1950’s Army experimental 60 caliber electric-primed machine gun cartridge, live. Ammo collectors only want live ammo. The Army tested .60 guns and ammo in 1940’s and ‘50’s but dropped it all and standardized on 20mm instead for aircraft cannons. The larger projectile filled with high explosives was more effective against other aircraft. Here are photos of a round exactly like the one she sold, on another forum. They are scarcer than when forum posts were made and she got $150. For hers.
