Picked these up from an estate sale. Looks like original box. Made in Germany. Styrofoam I think.

Do these have a name? Approximate age?

From what I can see, they are made to look like pomanders. Very pretty!

Agree, they have a pomander look, like oranges with cloves stuck in them:

I remember that trend. Embellished styrofoam balls as Christmas ornaments. Magazines were full of how to do. We've still got a couple my mother made. Early 1960s.

I even made those as a kid -- late 60's, but used oranges. I think my mother was hoping sticking those cloves in would keep me busy for a hour. Positive that was the main objective. (The oranges were not used for ornaments)

As for Krafts, are we thinking this was someone's home project? The box is also stamped "US Zone" under Germany, so box is 1945-1950.

Probably not huge value either way, but they have a nice look.

The gold thread makes it look newer.
Can you see any styrofoam in between what ever those bead things are?

You mean that she didn't really want them after all that work? Pushing in the heads of all those cloves resulted in some mighty sore thumbs....

    Hi,
I still get sore thumbs since I make between 6 and 10 of those things every year. They get used as drawer scents during the winter usually in spring they have shrunk down to golf ball size. I started doing them back in the 1960s. I usually do designs on them not covering the entire orange. It helps to use a thimble.

Thanks for all the input. These are styrofoam. With the perfect box I thought these would be store bought maybe.
