NRA Poster? Certificate?

My Father had this piece hanging in his garage for as long as I can Remember. When he passed away I got it. I have always been curious if it is really from 1940. I know he was always a member of the National Rifle Association. I was hoping someone might know of the origins of something like this. It is not in the best of shape and faded. It appears to be some kind of a certificate given out when someone joins the NRA. It has a date on it of January 29th, 1940.

 

the date looks good...but it says organization......so maybe his company....not personal ??

 

Maybe some kind of gun club?

 

No reason it can't be from 1940 & yes, doesn't look like an individual membership certificate. It is recognizing some local organization as an affiliated chapter (or whatever they have) of the NRA.

 

@The Nailhunter was your father or his father a member of a gun club of any kind?

It's an NRA certificate. To the left of Ares, the text speaks to national defense.

You are right! I did not see that before!! He did belong to that Gun Club, We went there many times but that was back in the 70's. My memory is not as good as it used to be.

I am glad I found this web site. It is like having experts and an extra set of eyes at my finger tips!

 

Yes, you are correct I remember going with him back in the 70's, I don't know how i missed that.
