I am lucky enough to live in Lovejoy country in the heart of Suffolk.

Just to clarify - I grew up very close to Sanford, and have always spent a lot of time there (my parents' construction company was originally based there), downtown is on Lake Monroe, part of the lovely St. Johns River system, one of my favorite places. But while they now have some upscale developments nearby, and some gentrification downtown, where there are a few nice antique shops (or used to be anyway, haven't been there recently), it is not at all wealthy, the median income and home values still considerably below average. Sadly, in recent years, they've been most associated with the George Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin shooting and subsequent trial...

@DragonflyWink So true, Cheryl, about Sanford not being wealthy everywhere. Every town has its wealthy and not so wealthy districts. My DH and I used to make excursions to a very nice international marketplace there when we lived in Lake County. Not extremely close to shop but we took a day to drive there anyway. Perhaps you remember its name, World Marketplace perhaps?

Sorry, doesn't ring a bell - though there is a Cost Plus World Market in the Marketplace at Seminole Towne Center near I-4 and the 417. Shame you didn't visit the downtown area near the lake, they've done a nice job of upgrading it, and there are some good restaurants...

I like Sanford, but it is not a "very wealthy city", and would think anyone heading there expecting someplace like Palm Beach would be pretty disappointed. This is the view coming down 17-92, the main drag into Sanford from my home in Winter Park (adjacent to Orlando) - the lake is straight ahead, 'The Barn', which, years ago, was a pretty well known honky-tonk, is on the left, and one of my favorite places is also a bit further up, 'Pebble Junction', where you can buy all sorts of rocks, you weigh your vehicle, load it with stone and re-weigh for the cost:

The majority of my references are packed away at the moment, but those that I have handy do have information, usually correct and more in-depth, that often just isn't available online.

I'd probably want to visit the UK, and the Scandinavian countries (a Danish acquaintance says they're just as stupid as Americans on silver - note that he's not described as a 'friend'). I'm often amazed at what treasures can be found on eBay and Etsy from British sellers, but would buy more often if so many eBay sellers in particular, didn't charge such freakishly high shipping. I buy only very small items, can only think that those with high shipping have gone with the 'Global Shipping' option - $20-$30 shipping for a little piece that weighs maybe an ounce or two pretty much puts me off bidding...

I would love to pick anywhere in Europe. I'm on the treasure coast of Florida and we travel places all over and pick. I find good things all the time, sometimes even home runs. Happy hunting and holidays all!

With a primary interest in the Arts and Crafts movement, it would have to be England for me, though I would also love to visit Scotland. My only foray into international antiques hunting was in Holland where I hit a couple shops. Found prices to be expensive but I am sure that I was not going to the best places for bargains.

If you ever make it here, you'd need to check out Metroland and the Charles Voysey houses. And some of the conservation areas in London which still have proper A&C houses. Eltham, Roe Green, Mapesbury.

Not nearly as exciting as other's choices....but I'd go to B.C. Canada, only a couple of hours away from me; due to some personal collecting interests. I haven't been for some time, due to the border closure, and the closing of a favorite auction house before that.

I just drive 2 miles to the next village to my lock-up, there must be 10,000 antiques in there:hilarious:

Wrap up warm though, its colder in there than outside.

A woman came to buy some antique furniture last week and she was so cold she was shaking.

    She said,

    "death has walked through here"

I said probably correct as its full of dead peoples stuff.

I'm going there in 2 hours to empty some more.

Sales of big stuff has gone through the roof this last 10 days.

this morning I went to an auction house platform and was amazed that the prices were extremely low or without limit with some, as if they were folding in at the end of the year. nice Jugendstil jewellery.

I agree. I’ve found that you can pick up Edwardian display cases for as little as £35 just because they’re not in fashion or the auction house don’t know much about it but the same on eBay go for hundreds (whether they actually sell is debatable).

Ah. That’s where eBay can come into it’s own. Haven’t been to an Antiques shop in 9 months but have bought some nice pieces on line.
