Hi all, picked up these adorable crystal champagne(?) glasses just cause they were so pretty! 3 1/2 inches high,3 wide, beautiful in the light. Normally I wouldnt even look at crystal but the size of these intrigued me. Any input is always appreciated.

I've seen these called Champagne Coupes or saucers.....but I've always thought of them as Margarita glasses....

    Hi,
Those round champagne glasses were supposedly made in the shape of Queen Marie Antoinette's breast. I much prefer the champagne flute shape.

Either Fostoria or Cambridge had a cutting similar to this.
    I think 1940s - 60s is most likely.

Did you find out anything on these glasses?

Over the weekend, I bought two saucer champagnes of a different pattern. In doing research I came across a pattern called "Valmy" by Lorraine.
(I cannot find any information on Lorraine glass, except for Chataeu glass, which I don't see a correlation to.)

The stem attachment is a little different

Now the weird part. I came back to look at your glasses to see if the pattern matched and realized that the stem and the cut at the bottom of the bowl matches the glasses I bought (design on the bowl is completely different).

I was leaning toward Bacarrat or St Louis for my glasses, because of the quality of the glass. Until I looked at yours again. I had priced mine at 50. for the pair.

Have you done the ring test, tapping the rim of the bowl. Mine ring loud and clear like a church bell.

If your glasses ring loud and clear, they are definitely better than Fostoria or Cambridge. Do a little more research and let me know what you find.

Wow,thanks so much for the info! That sure looks close. They have a lovely ring indeed, and a sparkle in the light wich is part of why I bought them though Id long ago sworn off glassware. I will dig around (though my luck on google images SUCKS)
and let you know what I find, again, thanks for the efforts. :)

Ive looked for hours, and heres what I think so far...Lorraine is a region in France renowned for their glass making (wich I didnt know) and all the biggies were there,Daum,Lalique etc. Valmy is a town ,so Im wondering if somewhere along the line this was labeled "valmy France glass" and it stuck as terms sometimes do? I couldnt find any specific mention of a company actually named Lorraine glass,or Valmy glass. I see some glass that looks very much like mine, but they are larger than mine by at least an inch.

Thanks for the info on Lorraine. That makes a lot of sense.

I've been going through Replacements of the quality cut glass companies without any luck. I'm up to K, am getting tired and will look again tomorrow.

I got my two glasses from an estate. The house was bought in 1919 and it has been passed down through the family. I got there at the end of the day, bought Wedgwood from the 1850s, Orrefors bowl, sterling so black you couldn't tell it was silver, and lots of misc little things. The saucer champagnes were marked a dollar each.
From what I bought and saw, plus the quality of the glass and ring tone, I've been looking at the better glass companies.

My glass pattern is vertical cuts with cross hatching underneath (much finer than I was able to draw). Has the same stem and "floral" button on the bottom of the bowl that yours does. The base on mine is also cut with the "star" pattern.

I didn't measure the height of mine. I'll write a note to do that, and try to remember to read it tomorrow.

I had a set. Sold back in 2014.
Mine were just over 4¼" tall and about 3½" across the rim.
here's what the cut on the bottom of the foot looked like:

I sold them as most likely Hawkes (with worn or missing marks) because they were found with these at the same estate (which still had VERY faint Hawkes marks on them) ... sadly, all were exhibiting various stages of 'crizzling'. Silver lining - learned about crizzled glass from buying these and now will not to buy older glass that has a 'greasy and dusty' coating on it without first cleaning and shining a bright light on it (fortunately, they were super cheap)

    Thank you.
Hawkes was where I looked first and didn't see anything. Then I did the ring test and started looking at other companies.

And darn it if I didn't forget to measure my glasses today. I even read the note, but got distracted and then had customers and forgot.
    Just hate this forgetfulness crud!:arghh:

Thank you quirky - really appreciate the help.
