I am looking for info if anyone can help, this is a crescent salad plate. It has two crowns on the back .. the first is marked with Royal Worcester (no England anywhere) The second crown has the words Mount St / Phillips's LTD / London. W .. Under the two rows of crowns is a blue box saying RdNo 178723 and in a banner below is Royal Worcester /vitreous
These are very pretty plates and I would like to find out when they were made and why there is no England stamped on them. I know they will not be valuable, but they are interesting and I want to find out more about them.
Should add there is a triangle and two tiny triangles pressed into the plate .. three tiny blue dots and a tiny orange signature

    Kind regards
    Senti'

Owned, I dont think it is the auction house, I think that Phillips were retailers with various London addresses and were at Mount st between 1897-1906 according to Godden.

Might do, the mark in Godden is different but has a crown above.

Theoretically they are called bone dishes. I can't imagine a lettuce salad staying put long enough to apply a fork. One the other hand, one cannot be dining on roast chicken (or Heaven forfend, a turkey!) and using them for the bones. A wee squab, perhaps, or a breakfast trout...

You can use them for whatever you like, I just meant searching is easier when you use the right terms. Fruit would be nice.

    Hi,
I was always taught if the crescent dish is 6" or smaller it is a bone dish, larger than 6" it is a salad plate.

What way do you measure .. its over 6' on the longest part but under on the shortest .. will get photos for you later .. this is really interesting .. it would be so typical to have bone bowls given to me by someone who knew I was a life long vegetarian.

So a bit like getting them from Woolworths ... the quality is not great, this is why I know they are worth nothing money wise. But its so interesting finding out about bone bowls !!! its a different world to one I know .. LOL
